By invitation only guests and art enthusiasts were invited to Social Life Magazine's August Cover party featuring Philanthropist, Author and Socialite Ms. Jean Shafiroff.

Supporters enjoyed a taste of exquisite art and cocktails with Richard Demato at the VIP Summer Celebration at RJD Gallery in Bridgehampton, NY.

During the evening I had the chance to chat with Artist Lesley Thiel.

Lesley Thiel is a self taught figurative artist known for her highly detailed photorealistic paintings. Working in oils, her pieces focus on narrative portraiture and magical realism. She dresses her models – usually children – in imitations of the ruffs and collars of bygone ages, or headdresses of dead flowers and branches. Her paintings contain imagery designed to tell a story of the fate of our species and our relationship to the earth. They include feathers, flowers, and animals as a sign of hope for our collective future. They speak of the strength of the upcoming generation of young women and girls, who may well be our saviors. They question the accepted narrative of the female voice in society and the myths attached to this. Her paintings have been included in numerous exhibitions, and are represented in collections throughout the world.

Lesley’s work has been included in numerous exhibitions, including at the Museum of Modern European Art (MEAM), in Barcelona, Wassau Museum of Contemporary Art, The Mall Galleries, London, The Salmagundi Club, Terminal 5 Heathrow (as part of the Olympics), and Zhou B Art Center. She has received a Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America, and awards from the Art Renewal Center. Her work is part of both the Art Renewal Center Collection, and the Bennett Collection. Born in England, she now lives and works in North Carolina.

Lesley is represented exclusively by RJD Gallery.

Lesley featured one painting at the galley titled "Phoenix." This incredible painting of a beautiful famous white horse who had a tragic end.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores culture and its relationship with the earth. I see our society and its rules as akin to an old traveling circus, filled with the bizarre and whimsical, the illogical and the distorted. The ruffs, corsets, or hats in which I dress my models represent the cultural rules that we consider immutable, but which are really often a result of whims, fashions, or negotiations. I want to convey that they will become irrelevant and be replaced, just as the accessories of the past have been discarded. The rules of the earth, on the other hand, are finely balanced and breaking them has consequences.

I see a painting as a conversation in which the opening sentences are created by the artist. The goal of my efforts is to try and create work that suspends disbelief to the point that it slips effortlessly into communication. Beauty has a role to play in that exchange. Not the superficial appearance that we tend to associate with the word, but the accidental beauty of the turn of a head, a fleeting emotion playing across a face, or the grace of an unaffected gesture. Beauty has the capacity to open our souls and make us sharply aware of everything around us. It can transport us and yet keep us truly in the moment, longing to hold onto that emotional rush we feel. It allows us to create a zone of comfort in which we can discuss ideas and feelings, and how our world will change. It is my hope that it takes others on a journey in which they create their own conversation with my work.

RJD Gallery specializes in contemporary art with a focus on Magical, Figurative Realism, Narrative Portraiture and Urban Landscape.

They exhibit international, representational artists with a concentration on narrative realism, photorealistic portraiture, surrealism and figurative art. Exhibiting drawing, painting and sculpture, our emerging artists and American Master Painters from our RJD Private Collection, present a contemporary vision of our world.

Ms. Jean Shafiroff who is featured on the cover s an American philanthropist, author and socialite. She lives in Manhattan, in New York City, and in Southampton, New York. Ms. Shafiroff serves on philanthropic boards in New York City and Southampton.

Shafiroff has been a trustee of the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services (JBFCS) since 1992, and served as a board member of the Youth Counseling League, a division of JBFCS, from 1998 to 2009.[7][8] She has served as co-chair of Southampton Bath & Tennis Club Charitable Foundation since 2005, and as a member of the board of directors from 2001 to 2004.[7]

Shafiroff joined the board of Couture Council, which supports the museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), in 2010.[2][8] In April 2012, Shafiroff was appointed to the board of the French Heritage Society.[2][12] Later that year, she joined the board of the New York Women's Foundation after having hosted the foundation's annual luncheon fundraiser the previous four years.[13] She is an honorary board member of the Southampton Animal Shelter.[2]

Shafiroff is known for "her leadership in raising money for the Southampton Hospital." She chaired the hospital's annual summer gala fundraiser for the years 2010–2011 and 2013. Ms. Shafiroff has chaired other galas and fundraisers, including the Bicentennial Gala of the NY Mission Society, the Solar One Gala and the New York City American Cancer Society Gala three times.

Ms. Shafiroff has been named by Gotham Magazine as one of the "100 Most Powerful New Yorkers," and was featured in Hamptons Magazine's "Best Dressed List" in 2012.

In October 2014, Shafiroff was elected to the Board of Directors of the NYC Mission Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping out families in New York City's impoverished neighborhoods. She is currently serving as a board member for The New York Women's Foundation.

She is recently famous for writing In March 2016, Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life by What You Give. The book is about Shafiroff's experiences as a philanthropist and how to get involved in charity work. It contains an introduction by Georgina Bloomberg.

Christie Brinkley received critical-acclaim in 2010 when she made her Broadway stage debut as the merry murderess, Roxie Hart, in the Tony Award-winning hit musical "Chicago." She continued her stage success reprising the role in London's prestigious West End for a limited four-week run and again, wowed the sold-out audiences. Christie came back by popular demand to reprised her role on Broadway, and the went on to headline with The National Touring Company of "Chicago" with 182 total performances in cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston and Hartford. Christie's acting and dancing chops has The U-T in Sand Diego stating… "The lady looks amazing and has natural dazzle to spare... Brinkley can carry a tune. Her singing has a husky note that fits the rough-edged glamour gal Roxie...Brinkley brings this merrily morbid story of fame and mayhem in the Windy City a presence like a summer sunbeam ...plus a game-for-anything streak of moxie. Her disarming charm works its way into her acting technique." While Broadway World.com praises… "Brinkley is still beautiful and is a strong presence on stage. She fits the look of Roxie who is a wannabe glamour girl from the chorus. Brinkley brings a charm to the part that makes Roxie seem more ditzy than coldly calculating. She gamely tackles the songs and the tricky choreography...is made up for in enthusiasm. Her voice is nice and has a husky tone to it that fits the character."

In December, Christie made her debut on "Parks & Recreation," The episode featured Brinkley portraying the beautiful wife of "Parks and Rec" character Jerry Gergich, continuing the tradition of beautiful women in Jerry's life, since then, she's had a reoccurring role on the NBC sitcom.

Christie's popularity and sense of humor, was evident on Anderson Cooper recently as she co-hosted "Anderson Live with Anderson Cooper." Created and developed by Emmy award nominated writer-performer Eugene Pack and Dayle Reyfel, "Celebrity Autobiography" features a first rate comedic ensemble performing from the actual memoirs of a wide range of celebrities. Christie's performances featured both solo and ensemble pieces that include themed mash-ups whereby performers play off of each other's excerpts

Christie has immersed herself as part of the Theatre community she adores and participated in both the 25th and 26th annual Broadway Cares "Easter Bonnet Competition," a memorable spectacle celebrating the incredible generosity and creativity of the theatre community and all Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS supporters. This summer, Christie Brinkley received the prestigious 2012 Broadway Beacon Award. This award represents a not-for-profit Children¹s Theatre Company that brings the joys and advantages of musical theatre to NYC¹s under-served public school students throughout the five boroughs. In June, "SOFO Goes SOHO" honored Christie Brinkley for her contributions as a concerned environmentalist, especially for her work on the East End of Long Island, which is her home, at The South Fork Natural History Museum.

This is my staring role…..and I plan on winning an academy award, because when it is all said and done my children are my greatest legacy. All of the other things I do in my life are important but never as important as my being there for my children.

I hope to share with you my “favorites” from recipes to travel to good old fashioned advice. Of course we will have our monthly celebrity Mom and take a peak into how she manages to do it all…..or does she? It is hard to do it all, as we well know but somehow it manages to get done!

I encourage you to send me your favorites as well! Motherhood is a marvelous journey, let’s unite as Mother’s and share our stories with one another!"

It was "Conversation and Cocktails" as the glitteri of society gathered for a cocktail reception presented by Old Fashioned Mom Magazine Editor and Chief Michelle-Marie Heinemann and Sheela Murty Of Traum Safes, a the World Leader in Exquisite high security to welcome Jacque Bounin from Le Rosey....the most prestigious boarding School in the World!!

Owner Sheela Murty reveals "Twenty-five years ago I founded Traum Safe with the mission to revolutionize how affluent families looked after their jewelry. Today we are the leader in luxury home safes. People always ask how a girl who grew up in a small town in India and earned a Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Biochemistry at age twenty-four from the Freie Universitaet, Berlin, ended up founding Traum Safe. Well, it is about a day that altered the course of my life.

I was a college student doing the typical continental tour with my best friends in my beat up old Audi. We had just tallied up and my friends had handed me cash for all the group expenses I had paid for. Unbeknownst to us, we had been watched. We then visited the beautiful Salzburg Dom Cathedral, where my purse was stolen right from the pews. The thieves were after the cash, but what they got was my great-great-grandmother's diamond earrings. I had just turned 21 and my grandmother sent me her grandmother's earrings as a present. Too late to take it to the bank locker, unwilling to leave it in my college dorm room in Berlin, I had it in the bottom of my purse the whole trip! Years later when I came to the US, the land of opportunities, I moved from pharmaceutical science to pursue my passion. I wanted to make sure no one else experienced that sense of loss and violation that I felt on the balmy summer afternoon in Salzburg. So much has changed in 25 years. Remember when apple was just a fruit we bit into? When blogs, apps and texting did not exist in our vocabulary? When children wrote cute letters to their grandparents? And yet so little has changed. The fundamental principle that my business was founded on remains steady. Affluent families value their treasures and want to both protect and rejoice in them. They want the luxury of privacy and peace of mind.

Over the years I am very proud that we not only look after the fabulous collections of our clientele but also their trust. As I look to the next 25 years, we will continue to build on our strengths of innovation and state-of-the-art technology combined with the solid old-fashioned values of integrity and discretion."

Five generations of directors –who have always been the owners of Le Rosey— have continuously striven to enhance a unique educational institution providing students with an international education.

Rosey’s alumni have created a powerful and effective association whose members hail from many backgrounds with several of them leaving their mark on the history of the 20th century.

Despite Le Rosey’s attachment to its traditions, discipline and educational standards, the school has always been innovative and at the forefront of many pedagogical advances, especially in the areas of language teaching, biculturalism, personal development, the integration of sports and arts in daily life, motivation and the place of values in education.

A structured, dynamic network of anciens (Rosey alumni) with its own resources, the AIAR is present in the majority of countries across the globe as well as most major cities. It is one of the most effective and lively alumni associations in the world.

Its outstanding success is down to a host of factors: the quality and dedication of its directors and committees, the alumni’s attachment to their former school and the friendships forged there, and the influence of numerous anciens who are prestigious ambassadors for Le Rosey.

Annabel Revers Wins Great Southwest Equestrian Center Equitation Championship at the Hampton Classic

Following two rounds of competition Saturday at the Hampton Classic, Annabel Revers of Weston, MA, came out on top in the $10,000 Great Southwest Equestrian Center Equitation Championship.

evers received a first-round score of 86 and a second-round score of 97, (from which three points were deducted for time penalties) to finish with an overall total of 180 points. Second place was awarded to Madison Goetzmann of Skaneatles, NY, with a final total of 171.5, and third went to Jordyn Rose Freedman of Longmeadow, MA, just a half point behind with 171.0.

Returning in reverse order of standing following the morning's first round of competition, Revers had the good fortune of riding second-to-last and was able to watch the rest of the riders tackle the course before her turn in the ring.

"After watching the first riders go, we knew the time would be tight so we talked about keeping a really good pace, and not taking too much time around the turns," said Revers. "You had to ride the lines very accurately and you couldn't make up the time in the lines so you had to focus on the turns."

Revers, who is trained by Stacia Madden and has recently started working with Max Amaya, emphasized the plan for the second round was to ride through any mistakes.

"The biggest thing Max emphasized was if we had a small mistake to keep going," explained Revers. "It was a tough course and it would be impossible to do absolutely flawlessly. If something happened you'd just have to keep going and do the best you can. My horse has a very nice canter, he goes at a more forward pace than some others. He's a great jumper - very brave, which was definitely very important jumping onto the bank. The early riders had rails, time faults and refusals. It just emphasized you just had to ride the course; don't worry about making it smooth or look beautiful, just ride the course and get the job done."

Amaya's wisdom comes from experience: "My advice for the second round was stick to the plan, follow every single instinct, but don't overreact. Don't overcorrect. Let the horse jump. Give him a little space, but don't overthink this course."

The $15,000 Carolex Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic was won by Friday's Junior Jumper winner, Daisy Farish with Alberto II. Jordyn Rose Freedman was second with Feeling, and Philip Richter was third with Pistoya.

The $10,000 Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic was won by Katie Tyler, riding Surf de la Cense owned by Barbara Kipihasha. Tyler received the Firefly Trophy, donated by Philip Richter of Turnabout Farm in honor of Christophe de Menil, for the win. Second went to Jazz Johnson Merton with Caliber 9, and third went to Brooke Gunther with Wilford 2.

The Gochman sisters continued their winning ways, taking first and second in the $10,000 Junior Jumper Classic Saturday morning. Mimi took top honors with Avoloma BH while Sophie took second with Carola BH. Coco Fath finished third with Cohbanta.

In the $5,000 Adult Jumper Classic, Lindsey Tomeu took the win with Gold Lux, Sarah Gordon on Bonitha was second and third went to Deborah Perkins with Emerald Grace.

In the $5,000 Children's Jumper Classic, sponsored by the Swan Creek Family Corporation, Hallie Grimes finished on top with Alasca LV Z followed by Sophia Pilla and Betty Boop III in second, and Charlotte Currey with Califa in third.

In the Anne Aspinall hunter ring, Becky Gochman took the championship in the Hunt Ltd. Amateur Owner 36+ hunters, with John Ingram taking the reserve with Cuba.

Gochman, whose teenage daughters were also extremely successful this week at the Classic, admits to "being pretty busy" at the Classic, but having a good time fitting in some riding herself.

"This horse, Catch Me, is amazing," said Gochman. "I call him my magic unicorn. We weren't quite in sync with each other Friday - this is my first time taking him on the grass and I was a little nervous. He is very sensitive so he picked up on that. We were able to make a full comeback today and I'm very proud of him. Our team is amazing and I'm filled with gratitude. Just to ride on this classic green ring of the Hampton Classic - anything that happens is icing on the cake. This is the most beautiful horse show in the country."

Standouts in this very competitive division, Ingram was equally as proud of Cuba, who comes to the Classic having just won the 2017 USHJA International Hunter Derby in Lexington in August.

"Becky rode beautifully and Catch Me was awesome today," said Ingram. "There's no shame in being second with a 90! My mother-in-law, Agneta Currey, is one of the founders of the show, so we make a point of getting up here each year. It's incredibly special. It's a beautiful grass ring, we don't get to ride in many of those anymore. They make a real effort here to make this show lovely and special. It's a great way to wrap up the summer season."

In the GiGi New York Amateur-Owner Hunters, 18-35 years, Peter Lutz and Chablis were awarded the championship, with reserve going to Nikki Diamantis with Cascina.

The Grand Champion Junior Hunter was awarded to Mythical, owned by Gochman Sport Horses and ridden by Sophie Gochman.

Sunday, September 3 is Grand Prix Sunday at the Hampton Classic. The $10,000 Hermès Hunter Classic is the featured competition in the Anne Aspinall ring. Festivities in the Grand Prix Ring begin with the $25,000 Jumping Derby followed by the grand finale -the $300,000 Hampton Classic Grand Prix CSI**** Presented by SOVARO®. The winner of the $30,000 LONGINES Rider Challenge will also be presented. Competition starts at 10:00 a.m.

The Classic features over 200 classes in six beautifully manicured show rings; a Boutique Garden with more than 70 vendors for shopping, and a wide selection of dining options on the world-class 60-acre showground.
